To All Local 342 Members:
Click the Icon to the left to view the Union’s Negotiations Schedule for the years 2007 and 2008. As you can see,
there are quite a large number of contracts that have expired or are expiring. This list is the most current
information we have pertaining to negotiations.
Depending on the size of the shop, each Employer is getting a maximum of four (4) meetings and, in some cases
for a larger shop, it could be up to eight (8) meetings; and, a minimum of two (2) meetings.
All contracts are being negotiated by the Local 342 Negotiating Team, which is comprised of President Abondolo,
Executive Vice President Lisa O’Leary, and Assistant to the President Fred Steiniger.
In addition, all bargaining is assisted by the Technical Support and Field Coordinator Team to bring the message
back to the members, and to assist in keeping our negotiation records up-to-date. The Technical/Coordinator
Team is comprised of Kelly Egan, Bob Lazzaro, Joe Lopez, Tenisha Williamson, and Samantha Roberson.
As you can see, this is the first time that Local 342 and Local 174 industry contracts are expiring at the same time.
It is our intention to try to negotiate these Contracts in expiration order. Please keep in mind that the conclusions
of these contracts are determined by the cooperation or the lack of cooperation by the Employer. In some cases,
a job action is necessary, which will slow down the process. We all know the name we have for those types of
Employers that don’t cooperate.
In some cases, you might see a status of Completed & Ratified for contracts completed before the listed Expiration
Date. This is due to the fact that those Employers cooperated and finished their contract quicker and wasted no
time getting it done before the upcoming expiration date.
We appreciate your patience and understanding, as we are aware that everyone is anxious to get a new contract.
We are working as fast as we can, but not too fast…we don’t want to miss anything. We want to make sure that
we get you the best contract possible and ultimately, in the end, you will decide that at Ratification.
Listed below is a key to understanding what information is being presented:
The Company Column lists the names of the Employers that the Union is negotiating with.
The Expiration Date Column indicates when the contact expires.
The Contract Type Column indicates the type of Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
The Status Column shows at what point we are at, in the negotiation process.
To Be Scheduled indicates the process is anticipated to begin.
Phase One involves the exchange of proposals and financial reporting.
Phase Two pertains to Bargaining Meetings to discuss the Unions concerns as well as the
companies concerns. During these meetings, actual bargaining takes place, reporting to the
Negotiation Committee on a regular basis.
Phase Three is where the Negotiating Committee joins in on the Bargaining Process and signs off
on the Tentative Agreement and participates in the ratification.
Completed & Ratified - the final phase of the process.
Me Too* - is where the employer agrees to the Industry Contract.
We are showing this list and explaining it to you because we have been receiving a number of calls from members
concerned about their contract expiring. When a Contract expires the law requires your Employer to continue to
pay all the terms and conditions while we continue to bargain.
Another problem that has created this situation was that most of the Employers that we deal with, that were
normally Industry groups, have broken apart and, by their rights under Federal Law, have come to bargain
individually. That does not mean that the Union is weaker in any sense, in fact, this enhances our strategy
because none of the Employers want to be on strike while another is operating.
This listing will be updated on a daily basis on our Website so that you may visit it often for updates pertaining to
your Companies status.
We hope that this information has answered questions for all of our concerned members. All Members whose
Contracts have expired need to just keep working as per normal and take no action unless directed by your Union
Representatives. No one should take an action who is working under an expired contract without the direction of
the Union.
If you need further information, please contact your Union Representative.
Thank you for your cooperation.
