A&P BANNER STORES IN MANHATTAN AND THE BRONX: UPDATE! UPDATE! UPDATE! Members Get Their April Increases Wednesday October 29, 2008
|
On Monday Local 342 reported we had given the A&P Corporate payroll department a strike deadline under the Pathmark contract covering
the Bronx and Manhattan, to pay our Local 342 Full Time members their April 2008 increases. Local 342 was forced to take that step. For six
months some of the Full Time members in Pathmark in the Bronx and Manhattan, and some of the Food Emporium Full Time members were
told every week the raises would be in their checks the following week, and then of course that turned out not to be true.
Local 342 is happy to report that the Union received the members back pay checks yesterday afternoon by the deadline, so the members
will be getting them from their Union Representative this week by hand delivery. Local 342 is glad the members will not need to take a work
stoppage to get a contract increase that was clearly owed to them. However, the Union is proud that the members were willing to do what
was necessary to stick up for their rights!
We are all hoping that the day will come when A&P will do the right thing by their employees without constant conflict. Unfortunately it does
not appear this day will come anytime soon. Your Union will continue to work at enforcing your contracts and the rights you enjoy because
you are union members. Our members work hard, are loyal, and only want what A&P promised them. The Union is not sure what is going on
in the Corporate office to cause all these unnecessary problems, but most Local 342 members have “Seen them come, and seen them go”.
So we will continue to do our best every day and wait for a management change. In the meantime…
IN UNITY THERE IS STRENGTH!
