Local 342’s Safety Department Puts the Gloves On at Pathmark in Holbrook
|
LOCAL 342 SAYS "SAFETY FIRST, IT PREVENTS THE WORST!"
|
In typical stories posted regarding Local 342, members read about the Union
taking the gloves off. In the Pathmark store located in Holbrook, Local 342’s
Safety Department put their gloves on and prepared to fight …for one of Local
342’s members, that is.
Rose Palma, the Deli Manager in the Pathmark store, requested, from store
management, a pair of elbow length heat resistant gloves to be utilized during
the use of the deep fryer to prevent splatters from burning her hands and
forearms. When store management took too long to respond to the request,
Shop Steward Joe Lambiase made Local 342 aware of the situation and the Local
342 Safety Department stepped in. The Union provided Rose Palma with the
gloves she requested.
Some time later, store management reported to the members that the gloves
finally came in. Joe Lambiase replied to store management, “You guys are too
late. Local 342 took care of it and got us what we needed.”

If you or someone in your shop needs PPE, Personal Protective Equipment, and you have requested it from your Store Manager, the Company must, under your Collective Bargaining Agreement, supply you with that PPE needed to do your jobs safely. If your Employer tells you NO, and does not supply you with what you need, you must speak with your Steward and call the Local 342 Safety Department.
